Dear U-TURN Community,
As COVID-19 continues to impact our world each day, we all are experiencing anxiety and uncertainty. This letter summarizes U-TURN’s response, and how we are continuing to support our community.
Our Response
The safety and collective health of the community is our main concern. To protect our participants, tenants, staff, visitors, and the community at large, all of our normal programming has been either suspended and/or postponed.
Your Support is Critical
During 29 years of serving the community, generous and ongoing support has helped U-TURN face many challenging seasons. Although none of us can predict what our service to the community will look like over the next several weeks, I assure you that we are joining the greater community in prayer and concession. We will be joining our fellow nonprofits and for profit communities in figuring out what’s next together. We believe it’s a time to come together as a community and support each other even more. As a supporter of U-TURN, thank you for your prayers and commitment to our organization. The services of all nonprofits are critical to our communities and so is your continued support. Thank you for considering a donation of any amount by clicking below.

- U-TURN has ceased all programs, including rentals, until at least May 1st. We are complying with local government mandates and recommendations as it relates to essential operations.
- Our athletic programs have gone virtual! Our goal is to keep our youth athletes and families connected and supported through this difficult time of change and loss. Our volleyball program (ODVA) has launched a fun and interactive program for our youth to stay positive, fit and connected to their peers.
- We are taking this time to revitalize the facility by painting and sprucing up certain areas, so that when we return to some level of activity, our community can enjoy a fresh space.
- Our tenants are also our partners, so we are working together to serve the communities they serve! This week we are supporting the efforts of Virginia’s Kids Belong by helping provide emergency survival kits to foster families throughout Richmond. Read more here.
- Deep cleaning and sanitizing is ongoing through our service partner JanPro Commercial. They have done a fantastic job of keeping the building safe and clean these last several weeks.
- Our team is also working towards and planning for future programming, events, services, and offerings.

In closing, a few encouraging scriptures to reflect on:
Psalm 121:1-2 “Lift up my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Psalm 46:1-11 “God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in times of trouble...”
Thank you again and be well and safe.
